The Bitter for the Sweet

Remember the intro of my blog last week? ("Because Life is Worth Celebrating") Well all the "bitter" parts came true this week - lots of disappointments and hard lessons learned.

Wasn't able to go to FHE and Institute because I was packing and moving. I really like my new apartment and roommates; I'm grateful this transition is working out. But not going to those church activities really threw off my whole week. I really missed fellowshipping with groups of LDS members. Maybe I am an extrovert...

Don't worry, I'm not going to vent and gripe here. I'm an optimist! That much I know for sure.
"...all things work together for good to them that love God..." (Romans 8:28)
I'll just focus on the good, fun things I did do this week.

Saturday - Ate brunch (which is apparently a big DC trend) at this popular joint in Eastern Market with Britt :)
I don't even know what the place is called but the line was forever long. I splurged and went for the crabcake egg plate with green chilies grits (you read that right, talk about food fusion!) and side of toast. That little circle was pure crab meat, no fillers. SO GOOD.
Walked around afterwards and was so proud of myself for not buying anything (even tho I made up for it later, but at least the quality and prices were better elsewhere) but I had fun browsing and trying stuff on :D
There were alot of solicitors who wanted my money, including a guy who said: "Can you donate to ___? Come on, you're so pretty, what are you, Filipino?"

I was so bewildered by his statement because I kept thinking afterwards, 1) flattery will get you no money, and 2) especially if you guess my ethnicity wrong. Ha!

Slowly made my way to Dupont Circle (it was so hot!!) to meet my coworker, Tigi, for window shopping and smoothies. It's such a fun neighborhood. Found 2 awesome comfy skirts on sale at Loft!
Didn't take pics of the rest of the day but it was wonderful. Britt picked me up to go shopping.

Got some really cute work/church clothes at New York & Company and Target, grabbed pizza from Costco (can't beat $1.99/slice!), and watched Julie & Julia. It was a lovely movie about food and marital love. I might write about it in my other blog. We'll see...

Sunday was like the redemption for the rest of the week. Church was wonderful. I had the opportunity to bear my testimony in sacrament meeting about opposition and tender mercies; little did I know that this would lead to an invitation to social activity!

The girls who sat next to me in the pew (we didn't meet) looked me up after church and invited me over for "Lava Flows"! (Cream of coconut, pineapple juice, ice, and strawberries) What a tasty side effect of sharing my testimony :)

and got to know these nice girls.

Got to go to a "New Member Dinner". I remember when I went as a new member 3 months ago but now I'm one of the "old" members helping welcome in the new people. I love circles of service :)
I'm so grateful for this social church - it is part of our religion to gather to play, laugh, comfort, inspire, teach, and strengthen together. I'd be so lost without it.
